Rainbow Pasefika We Exist We Belong
DJ PANDA | Multi Discipline
The Project
Kia ora koutou, Talofa lava !!!!! Leilani A Sio AKA DJ Panda 44 Productions and friends are organizing an event to coincide with the Wellington Pasifika Festival.
Every city in Aotearoa has these festivals on an annual basis, and what I have witnessed is an absence of LGBTQIA. This needs to change and while events like Pride and Out in the Park have their place in the universe, it is meaningful for Rainbow Pasefika to be visible and have representation at a Pacific festival.
The festival will be held Sat Jan 20, 2018, from 12 pm to 6 pm. We will be hiring a bus to pick up family and friends around the city & suburbs, then drop them off at Odlin's Plaza where the festival is held. There will be a marquee for Rainbow Pasefika and from 12 pm to 3 pm we will be attempting to make the World's Longest Rainbow Lei and then from 3 pm to 6 pm, we will have our guest DJs play the freshest tunes for all you fly kokonuttys!
Volunteers along with Leilani are giving their time, skills, energy and resources for free but funding is required to cover the costs of:
- the hire of the bus
- screenprinting costs of t-shirts for volunteers
- materials for lei
- decorations for marquee
- catering for volunteers
$2,500 will ensure the running and success of this event.
By having a presence at the Wellington Pasifika Festival, we are validating our youth and sending a clear message that 'we exist & we belong'.
We are grateful for your support and look forward to seeing you all there in Jan 2018!!!!!
