Quiet Times with Cubbin

Quality theatre doesn’t need to exist in just a black box. What if it existed in your own home?

We are Cubbin Theatre Company. Based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, we make quality theatre and music experiences for children under five. We're calling on our crowd to help us make our next project Quiet Times with Cubbin happen!

About Quiet Times with Cubbin

We need your help to develop six ten-minute episodes of Quiet Times with Cubbin, a rich audio theatre experience for very young children.

Each episode will include original stories, poems and music of the unexpected and the everyday, designed to engage little brains and spark imaginations. We will research and develop Quiet Times with Cubbin so we can bring some theatrical wonder into your own home.

Why this project? 

In response to the past two years, we have been exploring different ways to engage with under fives. There is huge value in little ones having creative experiences when and where they feel comfortable.

As mothers to young children ourselves, we understand the need for moments of stillness and gentle stimulation throughout the day. Quiet Times with Cubbin is a screen-free alternative that fosters listening and imagination that is available by simply pressing play.

We hope Quiet Times with Cubbin will be an accessible way for families to engage with our work and potentially be an introduction to theatre.

What is a theatrical audio experience?

With your help, that is what we want to find out! We are pioneers of theatrical work for under fives in Aotearoa and we want to keep exploring and pushing the boundaries with this innovative project. 

Kids love home, so why not bring theatre to the place where they are most themselves, where they are their most receptive and creative?
