Overview
"RELATABLE, FUNNY, HEART-BREAKING, HOPEFUL" - Theatreview
After a sellout season in 2016 at Allen Hall Theatre, we're bringing QUEEN by Sam Brooks to the 2017 Dunedin Fringe Festival. But to do that we need your help. We were so lucky to have such generous support for the original production in September and now we're calling on that support again to bring this show back in 2017. You donation will help us develop this show further and bring it to even more people next March. If you missed out due to sell out crowds in September, this is your chance to get in on the action!
Directed by Jordan Dickson
Designed by George Wallace
Starring: Orion Carey-Clark, Luke Major, Zac Nicholls, Shaun Swain, Nick Tipa and Mac Veitch
WHAT IS QUEEN?
QUEEN is a New Zealand play by Auckland based playwright Sam Brooks. Quite simply, the work examines what it is to be gay in New Zealand in the 21st Century - but what does that label even mean? Split in 14 different sections, showcasing 14 very different experiences, this show might not hold all the answers, but boy does it pose some questions.
Originally developed for Allen Hall Theatre in 2016, we are looking to remount and revise the production after sellout crowds and rave reviews.
WHO IS INVOLVED?
This production has been co-created by some of Dunedin's up and coming theatre talent.
Collectively they have worked with the Fortune Theatre, The Playhouse Theatre, The Globe Theatre, Counterpoint Productions, Little Scorpion Productions and the Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ. This is truly an all-star cast and crew with very bright futures ahead of them.
WHEN / WHERE IS IT?
We have been accepted into the Fortune Theatre's programme for Dunedin Fringe 2017. The Festival has an New Zealand reputation and is an amazing opportunity for us, as emerging practitioners, to showcase ourselves on a New Zealand stage.

"It [leaves] the audience, hopefully, with an understanding that being gay doesn't just mean Beyonc and the Spice Girls, or high heels and lipstick. Being gay is who you are. Thanks, for giving us the treatment we deserve." - Theatreview
