The Project

NO NGA HAU E WHA,

"PUORO ATU PUORO MAI"

The art of Taonga Puoro is in a state of revival, and Jerome Kavanagh is part of a movement which is introducing Ma?ori music, art, and culture to the world.

Jerome has been offered the opportunity to travel and collaborate with traditional Bengali folk band Joler Gaan. The collaboration will be a world first as these two cultures and their respected traditional music come together at the New Zealand Prakruti Festival at Bhavan's Nature & Adventure Centre. No New Zealand musician has been invited to perform at this festival in India before and India has not heard the live sounds of Taonga Puoro.

We have a unique and exciting opportunity to document and film this collaboration and fusion of the original music of Aotearoa with Bengali traditional Music in India.

Our documentary will portray the very real, lived experiences of a young Ma?ori artist using his craft to combine ancient ancestral practices with the wider world and the communities of Bangladesh and Mumbai.

Throughout this documentary, we will share rare insights of a young urban Ma?ori artist, living and practicing our traditional cultural ways in a contemporary setting.

We hope you will join us and donate to support the post production of this short documentary. This journey will be shared with you, with our whanau and the wider communities.

KA NUI TAKU AROHA,

KOMAKO and JEROME
