Thank you for supporting this NZ short film—we're at 41% of our goal with 20 days to go!

Alun Bollinger, Famed NZ Cinematographer, Joins Our Team!

We're thrilled to announce that Alun Bollinger will be the Director of Photography for our short film. Alun has been the cinematographer for scores of classic NZ films, including Heavenly Creatures, Goodbye Pork Pie, Came a Hot Friday, and The Frighteners. He has also worked as the second unit for Peter Jackson's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. We're honoured to have him with us.

We'll be posting updates about the film's progress on our website, pullingupstumps.com, and Instagram page in the months to follow. Please keep in touch—we'll have plenty of "Behind the Scenes" pictures and footage to show you! You are now part of our Kiwi cinema family.

With all our gratitude & appreciation,

Phillida Perry (Co-Producer), Elinor Teele (Writer/Director), and Emma Martini (Co-Producer)

WE ARE IN PRE-PRODUCTION!

PULLING UP STUMPS is on its way to filming in mid-March 2023! The location is locked. The actors are rehearsing. And we are covered in dust.

Visit the Behind the Scenes section on the website to learn more about our unique Otago set, our quest for farming tools, and our bird-brained star. Scroll down the page to view the special shout-out to Boosted donors.

We're looking forward to showing you more in the months to come!

3 WEEKS TO GO UNTIL FILMING!

Kia ora to our wonderful supporters, both near & far!

With 3 weeks to go, PULLING UP STUMPS is getting down to brass tacks. The set is being dressed, the rooster is being charmed, and our amazing Otago crew members are prepping gear. If you'd like to see what we're up to in the props department, have a look at our Instagram album.

We've posted a special shout-out to all of our Boosted donors on the film's website. We've also secured the help of some wonderful local sponsors in the past month, including AVIS® and Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel. So please consider giving them your business if you're in the Queenstown area.

Looking forward to making this vision a reality for you all!

Post-Production Begins!

After 4 days of filming in Otago, we are wrapped on PULLING UP STUMPS. Better yet, the rain held off and the rooster behaved!

We could never have arrived at this point without our Boosted supporters—you made it happen. For more on the filming, check out today's article in Crux: Locals and veteran stars shine in 'sensitive, emotional, and nuanced' Arrowtown movie.

We'll be posting more behind-the-scenes photos to our Instagram album in the weeks to come. Next step for our team—editing!

MUSIC, MAESTRO...

Kia ora to our supporters, both near & far -

Thanks to the stellar efforts of our Middlemarch editor, Shane Loader, the rough cut of PULLING UP STUMPS has been assembled, revised, and refined! It's now in the hands of our Christchurch composer, the multi-talented Hamish Oliver.

We hope to be finessing the final cut soon. In the meantime, please check out our Instagram page and the production photo album on our website. We're posting behind-the-scenes snapshots from our shoot!

The Finish Line is in Sight!

Kia ora to our supporters,

We're almost at the finish line! The film is currently at Department of Post getting a touch-up on all the sound elements. Cue the bleating sheep and creaking roof. Next week, we'll be approving the audio mix and colour grade in the final stage of post-production.

And then we'll be done! (Sort of.) In June, we'll be submitting PULLING UP STUMPS to film festivals around the world. We know you will want to see it, so we'll keep you up-to-date on our progress.

A teaser and behind-the-scenes featurette are in the works. In the meantime, you can explore the photos on our Instagram page and the production photo album on our website!

Congratulations to the Jack's for their Stumps Featurette!

Wondering how we made an Otago short film? Watch the Behind-the-Scenes Featurette! Our impossibly talented high school volunteers, The Jack's, crafted the entire 5-minute piece—from the initial footage to the final cut. Learn how many people you can cram into a New Zealand woolshed!

Also known as Jack Smillie and Jack Trounce, the Jack's are Queenstown-based videographers, directors, editors, sound designers, and drone operators. They have collaborated together on a number of local projects, including Under the Ice and the award-winning Desolate Remnants.

This Pulling Up Stumps featurette was Highly Commended for Cinematography by OnScreen in 2023 and won Best Documentary in the 2023 NZBS School Shorts competition. Please join us in congratulating the heck out of them!
