Public Service Announcements Ghosts of Christmas Parties
Anya Tate-Manning | Theatre
Overview
Public Service Announcements, Wellington's most raucous political satire, is bringing its irreverent and ferocious comedy to Circa Theatre for Christmas.
WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
We are raising money in order to pay our actors, designers and directors for rehearsals and pay for production costs like set, costume and lots of silly wigs. This upcoming season at Circa was confirmed at pretty short notice, so while we're very excited, we need your help to make this show happen.
We've been making political satire for eight years, mostly on the smell of an oily rag (don't sniff oil rags btw, very bad for you, and a very flamable way to make theatre). We know, with your support, we can create a brand new, hilarious, ridiculous comedy show. All money raised here will go straight to our creatives and our production costs, allowing us to focus on making an awesome Christmas show for all of Wellington to enjoy.
THE SHOW - PSA: THE GHOSTS OF CHRISTMAS PARTIES
It's the night of the Beehive Christmas Party, and the MPs are relaxing, mingling, and forgetting about the craziness of the last year. But as crackers crack and leakers leak, each party will come face to face with their own ghosts and discover the true meaning of Christmas.
This new show is raucous, hilarious and ferocious satire. A great end of year send off to an eventful year in politics and an Christmas party to remember.
WHO ARE WE?
Public Service Announcements is cutting edge political satire presented by the No Fefe Collective. We make fun of politicians. Our work is irreverent, raucous, non-partisan and hilarious. Our kaupapa is to mock all sides of the political spectrum, no party or politican is safe. We've got a reputation for fast and furious comedy.
PSA is Wellington's most frequently recurring political satire show - we've made work every year since 2011. Under their banner "The No Fefe Collective", Co-Creators James Nokise and Anya Tate-Manning set out to fill the void of political satire, which had all but vanished from our stages, and we've made 14 original shows over the last 8 years.
We make comedy that is both specific and broad, aiming to entertain those working in the heart of the Beehive, and also for an audience that doesn't know their David Seymours from their David Langes. So its super nerdy for politico geeks, but also has heaps of fart jokes.
KAUPAPA NO FEFE
No Fefe means 'no fear' in Samoan, and that has always been the motto of the show and the Collective. We are not afraid of making fun of those in power, nor should we be. Our shows are non-partisan, meaning we don't take sides or have an agenda, we mock all sides and all parties, everyone is treated with same disrespect and irreverence.
We believe that Political Satire is a very valuable form of theatre and comedy. It engages people in a political sphere with no bias or agenda, and removes the veils of power by making our leaders ridiculous. It holds a special place in Wellington, the political hub of New Zealand and we know there is a demand from audiences for this kind of work.
