Precipice to SkyCity Theatre

Overview
'Precipice' is a show by Kaleidoscope Performing Arts, a non-profit organisation from Waiheke Island. This show is about issues that are especially relevant to youth today.
These issues are portrayed through dance, drama, singing and acrobatics. Issues covered in the show include bullying, mental illness, drink-driving, abuse, exploitation, sexuality, drugs, academic pressure and suicide.
It is an intense and thought provoking experience for the audience, but displayed in such a way that is extremely palatable and enjoyable, considering the subject matters. It has been said by hundreds that it needs to be taken further and shown all over the country, and even New Zealandly.
This show has been in the making and improvement process for 2 years, but after all the hard work, Kaleidoscope was unable to generate enough funds to take it any further than a Waiheke audience. During what was supposed to be the last performance of 'Precipice', we were surprised by a community volunteer who wanted very much to sponsor 'Precipice' and tour it far and wide!
This person was a dream come true. They organised every detail for SkyCity theatre, booking us dates for this year. He eased our financial woes by saying he would cover the cost of everything, right down to the last cent. We couldn't believe it! This man who was an experienced member of the performing arts industry wanted to spend around $20,000 to take a little Waiheke group to an established Auckland theatre. Or so we thought...
After a week of euphoria, excitement and a big buzz around the island, Kaleidoscope's founder, Kathy Hollo, got a call that made her world come crashing down around her. After 22 years of hard work and struggle, it was not about to end, as she--and countless other people--had been made to believe. Kaleidoscope had been victims of a massively cruel, elaborate con performed by a convicted-criminal, who was on the run and under the guise of a false identity. He had no money, no contacts and no plan to ever take Kaleidoscope further. He had his own agenda.
Kathy had been left with two dates booked into SkyCity (without any deposit or any kind of payment made), an island full of people expecting a show and most importantly, a troupe of young performers who had so mercilessly been fooled into thinking a dream had come true.
It isn't fair to not carry on with this show. It isn't fair to the community who have supported the show. It isn't fair to Kathy, who has put her heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, time, money and life into it. And it definitely isn't fair to the cast who have dedicated so much of their passion, time and belief.
Kaleidoscope Performing Arts is carrying on with their SkyCity performance of 'Precipice' in October, but we need as much help as anyone has to offer. We need to make this show seen and these messages heard. We will not let our devastation and ordeal break us. We will not let this one person ruin our time to shine. He has done this to too many other performing arts groups, and we will use this to fuel our fire and our passion for 'Precipice'.
This boosted page is for raising funds to help with the transport of our cast, crew and props and hopefully some advertising for the show, to generate as much of an audience as we can.
