PLAY ON - THE ALBUM
LOOP | Music
Overview
On Sunday April 3rd, PLAY ON took the stage for a one-off show at Auckland's Pop-up Globe Theatre. The sold-out show was nothing short of magical, and presented 14 of Shakespeare's most well-loved soliloquies as songs, with a world-class local cast for the first time ever.
Now we need your donation to keep the magic alive and assist Paul, the cast and band to create a studio album.
On the night, Paul McLaney enlisted the help of high profile actors and musicians including Maisey Rika, Julia Deans, Esther Stephens, Laughton Kora, Cameron Rhodes, Mara TK, Richie Pickard (double bass), Andrew Keegan (drums), Jessica Hindin (violin), Mahuia Bridgeman-Cooper (violin), Rachel Wells (cello). The cast and band will be the same for the album.
"My ambition in setting these speeches to music is to make them accessible to an audience who might ordinarily think Shakespeare is not for them and to perhaps illuminate other aspects to those who cherish them already. Music is such a powerful midwife to thought and my hope is that by performing Shakespeare's great moments in this context we might foster new understanding". - Paul McLaney
Achieving our target will enable us to professionally record all 14 original songs from PLAY ON and create an album. If we surpass our goal all additional funds raised will be used to start the creation of an accompanying educational tool to promote Shakespeare in schools.
