Only Human

When we started on Only Human, I had a script, a vision, and a fuzzy idea of where things were going to take us. “This is gonna be easy peasy lemon squeezy,” I said, hoping that Kate would eventually believe me if I said it enough times.

Two lockdowns, five weeks of animation, and seven re-writes later and here we all are. At the finish line. We couldn’t have started this absolute marathon without any of you, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all of your support.

I am terrified to launch this into the world. A small part of it is my artists’ ego, wishing I could have done better, or worked harder, or been a generally more talented person. But a bigger part of it is knowing that once this is out in the world, all the little secrets I’ve held in my heart will now exist out there for everyone to see, and hate, and comment on. Only Human is, after all, about communication failings in the era of social media. What could go wrong?

I take comfort in the hope that by sharing my story you will feel free to share yours too. I know I’m not alone in my struggles. No one’s life is perfect, and, by acknowledging this, I hope that you come away feeling and knowing that you are not alone either.
