The Project

NZ Arts Foundation New Generation Award Winner Kate Parker and award winning theatre director Julie Nolan from NZ's Red Leap Theatre have been offered the adventure opportunity of a lifetime, to travel on a research ship for 10 days through Melanesia from the Solomon Islands to Vanuatu, studying the ocean and wildlife in the area.

Thanks to Aaron and Sarah Russ, together with Nathan and Robyn Russ, they have been offered free passage on the Spirit of Enderby and its upcoming Melanesia expedition - South Pacific: Secrets of Melanesia.

This opportunity will see them travelling among remote oceanic islands isolated from each other by sea or impassable mountains. In Vanuatu alone there are around 80 islands with over 100 indigenous languages. This is an extraordinary opportunity to experience culture and wildlife beyond the tourist route.

This surprise opportunity will allow Julie and Kate to continue development of their ocean related work SEA - the story of a remote island community and a boy's friendship with a turtle. Along with working together on their latest work about freedom, inspired by a Gabriel Garcia Marquez short story.

It's a rare chance for these two Red Leap Theatre directors to work uninterrupted together without distraction from the commitments of daily life.

BUT they'll miss the boat if they can't raise the money for their flights!

Please join us and be part of this incredible journey to send two dedicated theatre makers on the creative journey of a lifetime.
