Overview
NUKU is a movement! Powered by, made by and made for, Indigenous women – mā hine, mō hine, kia hine!
We are profiling 100 kickass Indigenous female leaders and change-makers doing things differently. Women from across Aotearoa, Māori, Pasifika, Indigenous. It is a purpose-driven project, changing the narrative for our future generations.
Launched in 2019, NUKU has succeeded through crazy ambition, a whole lot of heart, some pretty dedicated friends and whānau, a group of generous, open, wāhine toa and, the will to reach the end goal, 100.
It is a sharing of collective wisdom, wāhine sharing their stories of who we are, and not who we’ve been told to be. It's empowering Indigenous women to be agents of change in our communities, sectors and society. Through this creative, social-impact project, NUKU cultivates the opportunity to shape the world we want.
Join the movement.
Like many great pieces of art, NUKU has been made with a lot of passion, and not a lot of pūtea. We rely on grants, koha and merchandise sales to produce this work.
And we have MADE IT to the halfway mark, releasing NUKU //050 the day this campaign has gone live.
We have come this far, we need your help to get us further.
Each wāhine profile costs $2,000-$3,000 to create. This covers research, travel, shooting and interviewing, production, digital presentations, and archives. It doesn't cover the creation of the book, but we'll get to that later.
By donating, you will be helping us inch closer to the NUKU100. You will be supporting women in the arts, creating arts for women. You will be amplifying Indigenous voices that transform thinking, transfer knowledge across generations and uncover layers to cultural identity. You will give young women accessible examples of who they can aspire to be.
Indigenous women are driving and equipping the next generation, unlock the wave of potential and you will have a multiplying, generational legacy.
