Nowhere To Be

‘NOWHERE TO BE’ is an intimate portrait of humanity shot during the global coronavirus pandemic, pulling back the curtain on those who are usually behind the camera - showing that the need to create will always endure.

It’s April 2020. As the COVID-19 pandemic ravages the world, humanity is brought to a standstill. All ages, races, and genders are suddenly united in experience. As people grapple with the consequences, 31 cinematographers across 21 countries turned to an integral part of human nature: storytelling. They did this in the only way they knew how with a camera in hand. Using their art to look inward. Examining reflections, hopes, dreams and regrets. Uncovering the human experience of a moment in time that will define a generation.

From Senegal to the USA, New Zealand to Israel, Cuba to England, Russia to Mexico, NOWHERE TO BE explores the world through the lens of cinematographers. With spectacular footage of towns and cities as they have never been seen before, ‘NOWHERE TO BE’ provides the audience a window into these storytellers’ lives, through captivating visuals and insightful narration. 

"Nowhere To Be" has been selected for the prolific Australian arts festival Vivid Sydney this May. Your funds will help pay for the online and finishing costs for the film which include Sound Mix, Original Score, Colour Grading and Graphics.

In March 2020 New Zealand-based filmmaker Charlotte Evans, like many creatives around the world, found herself in the midst of a nationwide lockdown - suddenly without any work or outlet for her creativity. She had an ambitious idea: find cinematographers across the world to capture this historic moment in time. Through capturing their experiences, they were able to remain engaged with an art form that, for all of them, is deeply entwined with their identity.

A month later, 36 cinematographers had contributed from 21 countries including Russia, New Zealand, Brazil, Singapore, USA, Cuba, England, Palestine, Austria, Senegal, Lebanon, Japan, Australia, Dubai, Mexico and Bolivia.

Each cinematographer answered a set of questions in their language of choice, and the film is narrated by them.

The film is 35 mins in length and ready to online.

CHARLOTTE EVANS - DIRECTOR AND PRODUCER

Charlotte is an award-winning documentary, music video, and commercial director. Since starting her career as an editor in London, Charlotte has directed, produced and edited music videos for artists such as Benee, Kimbra and Aldous Harding. Charlotte is currently in post-production on her first feature documentary “Being Chlöe”. Her short documentary ‘OK Chlöe’ and interactive project ‘Give Kate a Voice’ both received numerous accolades.

LETISHA TATE-DUNNING - PRODUCER

Letisha is a creative producer with a deep understanding of narrative. Producing in both London and New Zealand for the past 7 years, she has worked on uncovering stories from the farthest corners of the globe. Her and Charlotte Evans’ short documentary ‘OK Chlöe’ was selected by The New Yorker, Short of the Week and Cinequest. She has just wrapped production on a local story for a Netflix Original international documentary series.
