The Project
Who am I?
Emma Hislop (Kāi Tahu). I am a Taranaki based writer who is currently working on my first novel. My debut collection of short fiction, titled Ruin, was published with Te Herenga Waka in March, 2023. I have an MA in Creative Writing from the IIML. My work has been published in anthologies here in Aotearoa, and overseas. I am part of Te Hā Taranaki, a collective for Māori writers, established in 2019.
What am I crowdfunding for?
I was fortunate to be granted a week's residency in Ōtakou later this year at the Robert Lord Cottage. I'm grateful for the time and space to further my research and write on Kāi Tahu whenua, but this particular residency doesn't come with any stipend. I'm looking for travel expenses to Dunedin, and hire car costs so I can travel to Karitāne and Pūrākaunui during my stay. Any money left over will go towards buying me a bit more writing time.
