Northridge is a coming-of-age sci-fi thriller web series run by young adults in Ōtepoti Dunedin being filmed across 2025. Our intention for crowdfunding is to allow us to increase the quality of our production and open gates for us around using resources we wouldn't otherwise have access to such as quality scriptwriting software and technical equipment.
The Team
My name is Pippa Trotman, I am head writer, director, creator, and producer of Northridge. I am 18 years old and am set to study Cinematic Arts at University in 2025. I'm working with Tyler Cox, our cinematographer, head of cast, producer, and director of Retrospect Entertainment. Our team is made up of about 30 young adults with people as cast, crew, writers, producers, and musicians, all coming from different schools over Dunedin. Our team tends to meet twice a week to run over scripts and technical details of our project, often splitting into cast, crew, and writers.
The Funding
Funding will be used for equipment and resources to help us continue and enhance the quality of our production. This includes script-writing and editing software to ensure each part of the show is the best we can make it as well as physical equipment. We’ll likely spread the funding across the rest of the episodes for season 1.
The Details
We're making a six episode web-series (we're hoping to have it on a streaming platform eventually) in 2025. The project focuses on highlighting the ability of younger people in both the film and music industries with a soundtrack currently being written by youth musicians in the Otago region. The series focuses on a group of teenagers who encounter a supernatural phenomenon during a camping trip and have to save their friend, Lexie, and town of Northridge before it's too late. We are working on this project because we noticed a major gap in projects that enable youth leadership in creative industries in Dunedin, so we decided to take it into our own hands and make the most of our time!
The Impact
We're hoping our project has an impact in Dunedin, showing our community that youth can make something themselves and deserve just as much attention and opportunities as adults. The goal is to create more opportunities like Northridge across Otago, encouraging youth to go outside and make some memories!
