Overview

Northland Hip Hop Dance is an Incorporated Society that was established in 2007 that provides a platform and opportunities for Tamariki and Rangatahi to express themselves through dance.

The opportunities that they immerse themselves in include dance workshops, competitions, community event performances, personal health and wellbeing and most of all fun and enjoyment.

In total we have 28 dancers who are made up from a wide age range from 10 to 30 year olds. With 90% being under the age of 17 and three of the dancers are also the coaches. We are ethnically diverse and with a high percentage of Māori.

In April 2024 we were fortunate enough to travel to Auckland and compete in the NZ Hip Hop National Competition. We entered 4 crews, 2 Junior (Prezzy and Future Crew), 2 Varsity (Kani Krew and Nexa) and also 1 Mega Crew - HDC. This is a highly recognised and prestigious event and 2 of our crews Prezzy and HDC placed in the Top 5 which qualified them to attend the HHI World Competition in Arizona, America from 3rd August - 10th August 2024.

Obviously this is an opportunity of a lifetime and we would love to make this happen for all 28 dancers and the parent support required to compete at a World Competition.

We are all very proud Northlanders and the only Northland Dance Crew to qualify so we would love to represent our region on an International Stage.

Estimated costs at this stage are $5,000 per dancer and includes the following:

● Flights, Insurances

● Accommodation

● Registration Fees

● Food

● Van / Travel Costs in America

● Traveling Kit

We are actively seeking koha/donations and families are also actively fundraising to help cover the main costs above. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. This is an amazing opportunity for our future hip hop dancers to excel in dance and we would love to help this trip come to fruition for all our young dancers. All up we have 28 students that have been selected to go to this competition. With only a few months to plan this trip the clock is ticking and taking off the financially load would be a huge relief to our dancers and parents as our main focus is on what they love “HIP HOP DANCE”.
