Night Waves
River Evans | Film
Overview
Regina, the host of the graveyard shift on 93FM, is surprised when a listener calls in to her usually quiet show. This man, gravely injured, is about to give Regina his final confession.
I'm proud to have had the help of renowned kiwi writer Fiona Samuels in developing this script, and to have long time kiwi actor Scott Wills in the supporting role of Nero, who won Best Actor awards on the international stage for his work in feature films Apron Strings (2007) and Stickmen (2000). We also have the fabulous Toi Whakaari graduate Ruby Pledge playing the lead, Regina.
The money you contribute will cover the fees for our actors, the catering, as well as location and equipment hire! I'm sure you want to know a little about our 'Why', before donating, so here it is...
Night Waves is a story native to Auckland city. The loneliness of a metropolis like Auckland is something that any city dweller can understand. It is in this atmosphere, of being simultaneously surrounded by but disconnected to millions of people, that the most un-thought of moments of connection and communion can occur. This film portrays the magic of such a moment.
The film is also something of a homage to independent radio stations like 95bFM. I have a deep love for radio, particularly bFM, having lived much of my life in Auckland. What happens when the alternative, hopeful, bright but somewhat sheltered student radio host Regina rubs up against the raw, candid, unflinching and sometimes ruthless creature of the night, Nero? It ends up as a moral test, a test that Night Waves will see through to the end.
We're a team of film graduates, all now working in the professional sphere, keen to take the initiative and make a film we're all incredibly passionate about.

Plot Summary:
~Night Waves is about a man, Nero, who in his last desperate moments decides to call the girl on the radio. It’s 3am and Regina is surprised, as people never call this late, but she has no idea the emotional limits this total stranger is about to push her to.
Regina’s resilience is tested when Nero suddenly yells out in agony, obviously hurt, his pain causing him to make aggressive and abusive remarks. He won’t accept Regina’s offers to help.
In the end Nero confesses he had no else to call. The one person in his life he respects, his daughter Stacey, no longer talks to him. Will Nero gain absolution before his death? Or will Regina find a way to track him down and save him? Help us get this film made and you'll find out at the premiere, which all donors will be invited to!~
The brass tax is, Night Waves is a story about forgiveness. That is the core that runs through the film. Nero's plight is what motivates Regina to re-form lost connections in her own life.
Anything you give will be greatly appreciated by all of us.
Thank you so much for you support.
