New Dunedin Music Compilation

This will be a curated compilation of new Dunedin music organised by Dunedin based sound artist Chris Wilson. It will feature a wide variety of music from folk to indie rock to punk to metal to sound art.

This compilation aims to capture the breadth, depth and diversity of music being made in Dunedin at this time. The compilation will be available on Bandcamp. This fundraising campaign will run in February to pay for mastering, original artwork, advertising, and administration.

Mastering will be done by Dale Cotton (HDU, Dimmer, Beastwars). The cover art is by Liam Hoffman (Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) Dunedin School of Art) who has exhibited in Dunedin and is the drummer in Night Lunch.

Chris Wilson is a Dunedin based sound artist. Wilson graduated with Postgraduate Certificate in Visual Arts with Distinction (Electronic Arts: sound) from the Dunedin School of Art in 2019. He organised the My Noisy Valentine art happening in February 2020. This featuring art making and a play at the Pioneer Women’s Hall. It concluded with an avant-garde music concert at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery simultaneously linked with concerts in Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland.

Wilson is part of the prolific Wellington based electropop band, Gold Medal Famous, that operated from 2008 till their hiatus in 2019. Gold Medal Famous were infamous for onstage antics and audience participation like theremin playing contests. He is also one half of experimental improvisational electronic research music duo, Selective Yellow. Wilson performs solo "theatrical noise" as Chris Hesitation, and organised "A Quiet Noise", a seasonal low volume experimental music night at RDC Café in 2019 and 2020.
