NEVER PROJECT SPACE

Never Project Space is an independent, artist-run contemporary art and event space in Frankton, Kirikiriroa, Aotearoa. Formerly known as Skinroom, Never was founded in 2015.

Never's mission:

Our mission is to embrace and support emerging visual arts, performance, and music and literature in the Waikato. We do this through advocacy, experimentation, and exhibition. We are a platform and hub for a diverse range of cultural disciplines. Our goal is to continue to establish and strengthen relationships between local, emerging artists, musicians, and movers and shakers in the larger nationwide creative community. We are proud to be a registered Safe Space of the Safe Space Alliance in support of our LGBTQI+ friends and family. 

Never provides Kirikiriroa an alternative to the white box, white wine, quiet and sterile art space. We are here to make noise and push boundaries and we do this without sacrificing a national standard for contemporary arts and performance. 

What we've done so far:

Since the space’s rebrand in June this year, we have hosted over 20 events (up 400% since the space existed as ‘Skinroom’, which hosted no more than 12 events per year) including seven exhibitions and more than ten music performances. In that time we have also opened Never Store, which stocks art books, ephemera and other wares from emerging and established local artists and makers. 

We have had a huge increase in interest and activity over the past 6 months and have recently closed our books to exhibition proposals (we’re booked until 2022!)

In order to facilitate this growth we are asking for your support. 

Never is run by us - Nick Walsh and Eliza Webster - two people with a passion for making the most of this space, for the good of our community. We work other jobs, both of us have our own creative practice, and we do this for free.

Any donations received throughout our Boosted campaign will be put towards artists, musicians and contributors fees and help toward general operation costs of the space. With your support, we can continue to develop the space into a sustainable institution that is indispensable to this city.
