A paradise lost? Imagine living off the grid on a bush-covered island surrounded by light sand beaches and a beautiful teal sea. A true paradise. Now imagine losing this paradise to a rising ocean. What can be done? How can you stop waves?

Climate change is an issue we all face on a global scale and to counteract its effects is a huge challenge for us and the future generations. Karl Webber lives on Motu Ngarara, an island off the Kapiti Coast. It has an amazing history, is surrounded by a marine reserve and is situated on the South Eastern end of K?piti Island, one of our oldest off shore bird sanctuaries.

What can one person do to try and counteract the effects of our consumer lifestyle and global warming? And what lessons can we learn about ourselves, our past and the future.

'Motu' explores this dilemma and how a positive attitude can help to make change.

Himiona Grace, Director

Himiona Grace is the writer/director of the feature film The Pa Boys (2014) and is co-director of Mai Kapiti, a small video production company based on the Kapiti Coast, New Zealand.

With a strong background in writing, music and photography it was always his goal to merge these skills and become a film maker. He trained in camera, sound and editing at Pacific Films and was fortunate to be mentored by some of New Zealand's most iconic film makers including Merata Mita, Barry Barclay, Geoff Murphy and writer Graeme Tetley.

Himiona is currently writing his third feature film 'Haka' based around a kapa haka group (traditional Maori dance and song) on their quest to compete in the New Zealand competitions and is working on a documentary looking at the traditional concepts around ancestral land.

Anahera Parata, Producer

Ngati Toa Rangatira, Taranaki

With a reputation for knowledge, efficiency, organisational skill, and successful outcomes her proactive approach to managing productions ensures delivery is on time and to budget every time. She is valued for her problem solving ability, focussed decision making, decisive planning and meticulous oversight of multiple tasks at once.

Aside from being an accomplished and highly sought after team member, Anahera enjoys creativity outside Film and Television, she was nominated for the NZ Best Design award in 2014 for her work across a large scale art exhibition at Te Papa. From the success of her work came an offer recently presented to her by Te Papa to sit on their Digital Panel as the lead external Producer.

Her passion for Tikanga Maori underpin her fundamental way of being, it helps control and manage her interpersonal relations, provides ways for cast and crew to interact collaboratively and determines largely how she identifies herself.

She has written and managed budgets from low end $20k per ep documentaries to $5million per ep New Zealand drama series. Anahera is comfortable across all facets of production having worked as a Field Producer from grass roots level to the extreme constraints of shooting in the UAE. Her strong industry networks both here and abroad have been key to the success of past project.
