Morning Hate
Alexander Borgers | Film
Overview
The requirement to suspend your humanity is one of the many tragedies of war.
On the Western Front during the First World War, allied soldiers send for Stretcher-bearers. Through the arterial web of trenches, they must decide who is likely to survive the journey back. As enmeshed front lines impede their advance, the demands of their job are overshadowed by the futility of the conflict.
MORNING HATE is Dean O’Gorman’s directorial debut. An accomplished photographer, his photographic works have explored the mystery of experience in the First World War, ‘No Man’s Land’ and ‘Passchendale – the Elusive Familiarity of War’, have exhibited at the Frankfurt Biennale and Peter Jackson’s Great War Exhibition respectively. Morning Hate is the progression from the still to the moving image.
Our collective curiosity was to create a work that depicts an experience of war free of sentiment. The responsibility of Stretcher-bearers provides an unbiased perspective on conflict. Morning Hate is an opportunity to re-examine a subject that has and will continue to affect subsequent generations.
THE TEAM
Our team unites award-winning talent both in front of and behind the camera, including writer and director Dean O’Gorman (The Hobbit Trilogy, Trumbo), producer Alexander Borgers (Shadow in the Cloud, Viva La Dirt League), executive producers Aidan Turner (Poldark, The Hobbit Trilogy) and Graham McTavish (Outlander, The Witcher), cinematographer Dave Garbett (Sweet Tooth, Evil Dead Rises), editor Colin Monie (The Magdalene Sisters, Good Omens) and recently attached composer Stephen Gallagher (The Beatles: Get Back, Avatar: The Way of Water). A talented cast that spans generations of gentlemen, including Matt Sunderland (Pearl, The Stranger), Craig Hall (A Place to Call Home, Sweet Tooth) and Cohen Holloway (The Power of the Dog, Rūrangi). The wider Battalion comprises a magnificent crew who banded together in the rains and mud of Autumn, to support a dear friend taking a next big step in his career.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR
We have produced this film independently. We secured the film’s shooting budget through self funding and private investment to get the camera (and digger) rolling. Our cast and crew have generously given in-kind sponsorship and support through their time, talent, production hard costs, technical equipment and post-production services so far. We are excited to be partnering with Park Road Post Production to complete the film.
We wrapped filming in April 2022, and have slowly been working on the offline edit. We are incredibly lucky to have Colin Monie editing this story with us. We feel grateful to have an ever growing team of individuals that have gravitated to this project, and are bringing their creative genius to help us make it the best it can be.
TARGET:
We need $15,000 to finish the film.
We are excited to have partnered with Park Road Post Production to complete the film.
With this money we will be able to complete;
- The Colour grade
- Sound Design & Mix
- Music Composition by the Emmy winning composer, Stephen Gallagher.
- Visual Effects
HOW YOU CAN HELP
We invite you to join us in bringing this special film to life! We are running a 30 Day crowdfunding campaign to raise the post production costs to complete it. Your generous contribution will go directly towards our post-production expenses at Park Road Post Production, to complete the Colour Grade, Sound Design and Mix, and Music Composition.
Boosted is an all-or-nothing platform, meaning that if we don’t reach our target goal in 30 Days, we won’t receive a cent.
It takes a village to make a film, and an army to fund one independently… Please help us spread the word and share this page with your networks!
