Moon boots for the RNZB
Royal New Zealand Ballet | Dance
The Project
Help The Royal New Zealand Ballet get 'moon boots' for our dancers, to aid with their recovery and assist injury prevention.
Ballet dancers are high-performance athletes, combining exceptional physical fitness with the grace and artistry of their profession.
RNZB Dancers are employed full-time and can be on their toes, performing and rehearsing complex choreography, for 40 hours a week. It's strenuous activity! Recovery and injury prevention are critical parts of a dancer's day-to-day life, and we are constantly looking at new advances in sports fitness to assist our dancers.
Moon Boots!
Fondly nicknamed 'moon boots', the most advanced technology on the market is the NormaTec PULSE Recovery System. The boots use compressed air to massage the athlete's limbs and are molded to each dancer's exact body shape. Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the boots will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This is repeated as the compression pattern works its way up the limb.
The technology is used by other professional sports people and athletes. The RNZB will be world-leading in the ballet community for its use of this technology.
What we need:
We have purchased one pair of moon boots and they are in hot demand! We want to purchase a second pair, allowing more use during rehearsal time, and for the boots to be used by different touring groups when the company is on the road performing.
We need to raise $2,500 to purchase a second pair from Normatec, including warranty and a carry case.
How you can help:
After a challenging year in 2020, our budgets are tight! You can help us to ensure the very best care for our dancers by making a small contribution to this purchase.
Consider a donation of $25, $50 or $100 - any amount will make a big difference!
Our dancers are so grateful to you - our friends and whanau - for your support of their well being.
