Overview
WOW! Thank you to everyone who has donated to Midnight Confessions. We are blown away by the immense amount of support, aroha and donations we have received in just the first day of our campaign. Thank you for helping Heartbreaker Productions create theatre and tell stories - you rock!
For the final two weeks of our campaign, we have added a stretch goal of $1,200. This extra $400 will go towards helping pay the cast/crew a small flat fee for their mahi on this project and to extra show fees such as music licenses and marketing.
Thank you again from the entire Midnight Confessions team! We couldn't do it without you and we can't wait for you to come to our sleepover!!
The Project:
Our show, Midnight Confessions, is about the intimacy of sleepovers. We will be encapsulating themes of coming of age, friendship, love, and trust in slices of life, all set at a sleepover. Inspired by Caryl Churchill’s anthology piece Love and Information, this new work is a love letter to the friendships that shaped us growing up and will explore different women’s experiences of sleepovers.
We have noticed that accurate, and fair representations of teenage girls and young women are severely lacking and mostly reliant on stereotypes that do not treat this age group as people with worthwhile contributions. Through this show, our aim is to present authentic relationships, women and non-binary characters who exist beyond their stereotypes and overall honest and hopeful representations. We expect our participants to experience the catharsis of seeing their experiences reflected onstage, and perhaps shining a light into the secretive and ritualistic world of female friendships. We want to hold a mirror up to the women in our audiences and open the door for audiences to see young women as we really are.
Who is Involved
Heartbreaker Productions are made up of four key collaborators; Abby Lyons, Alia Marshall, Anna Barker and Mia Oudes. Heartbreaker Productions are using a people-centred approach for this creation and are collaborating on all writing, directing, and performance of this show. This working style really suits us and two years into the creation of this company, this has strengthened our trust in each other and our company. We share the same artistic vision, and a community creation approach has greatly improved how we have ideated for this show.
Midnight Confessions will be Heartbreaker Productions debut stand-alone production, after their 2021 Fringe show; Conversations with the Ghost in My Bedroom, nominated for Playmarket NZ’s B4 25 and their 2022 Six Degrees Festival show; Trifles.
Why we need your support
Midnight Confessions runs from the 23rd -27th of August at BATS Theatre.
We are looking for $800 for the base costs of our production. This includes our production design costs, set and costume materials and APRA fees.
THANK YOU!
As a young and emerging production company, it is impossible for us to create theatre and art without your support so, thank you so much! We are blown away by all of the support and donations we have received for this project.
