Make 'Arotahi' happen

The Project
Indelible Design Studio and MTG Hawke’s Bay want to bring this amazing project to Napier for the Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival.
Artist Rangituhia Hollis grew up in Napier and over the last few years has shown internationally and at some of Aotearoa's largest public galleries.
For this project Rangituhia will work with long-time collaborator and sound artist Daniel Campbell-MacDonald as well as animators from Manurewa High School and Media School alumni (check them out in our Banner above - Bailey Marumaru, Rangituhia Hollis, Neo Tuimaseve, Lyquan Monga & Braden Robins).
These ambitious animators will bring the stories of this region to life in a 3D animated projection on Napier’s wonderful Waiapu Cathedral, for just one incredible night in October 2020.
To make this happen we need your help. This project is outside of MTG’s business as usual and outside of our funded programme. Your help will pay for the sound and projection costs and artist fees for the creatives to get them here in person for the event.
More about the project
The Cathedral was built in 1955 and is a pretty special example of modernist design, so…a huge scale projection on an amazing building… we reckon its storytelling at its best. What is even better, is that the project is about young people. Arotahi will bring historical characters to life in a way that people get. It’s also about four new art makers working alongside two renowned artists.
But mostly it’s about putting really high quality contemporary art out there, where everyone can see it in the hope that inspiration becomes aspiration for some of our local kids.
