Overview
Luminaires’ vision is to provide a platform for children to develop skills in the performing arts and participate in professional productions.
We want to offer full support to those who otherwise may not have the opportunity due to financial constraints or accessibility issues. Our first production is Monty Python’s hilarious “Spamalot Young@Part”, and we need your help to bring it to the stage in July.
OUR STORY
Luminaires Charitable Trust is the brainchild of Franc Bol, who while directing and managing the highly successful children’s production of Bugsy Malone last year, noticed the difficulties some children had around “access” to the full theatre experience. This included access to transport, accessibility issues, and financial concerns around cast production fees, purchase of base costumes, and costs relating to show attendance by whānau.
With her extensive experience and background in stage shows, drama, media and working on film and television shows including Kidzone and What Now!, Franc is well aware of the benefits of children engaging with the performing arts.
The idea of providing a theatre company for 8-25 year olds that aims to improve the social interaction of young people, encouraging them to form the bonds of friendship and discover like-minded peers, and operating according to a policy of inclusivity, was then born.
ABOUT “SPAMALOT YOUNG@PART"
The upcoming musical production of Monty Python’s “Spamalot Young@Part” this July is Luminaires’ first show. It harnesses the talents of 60 young people, both on and off the stage, and is supported by an experienced and professional team.
This exciting, ridiculous musical based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail has been specifically adapted to be performed BY children FOR children. There’s audience participation, jokes, and remarkable singing and dancing to well-known Monty Python show tunes.
FUNDING
With your support, all funds raised through this campaign will go towards the staging and production of Spamalot Young@Part. This includes
- venue hire
- costume hire
- the hiring of a musical director
- the hiring of a choreographer
- licensing
- free/subsidised ticketing
THE IMPACT
Studies have shown that children, who have access to the arts do better across-the-board academically. They also become more active and engaged citizens.
Whether as a participant or an audience member, the performing arts bolster a child’s creativity and self-confidence, cultivate compassion and appreciation for others, and strengthen self-discipline. Your help and support will help bring the magic and sheer enjoyment of live performance to the children of Christchurch and Canterbury this July.
