Send some Love to Our Loos! Help us rebuild our restrooms and invest in public facilities to be used by our audiences for generations to come.

The Meteor Theatre has been a space for Hamilton to share creative experiences for almost 25 years and, over a three-phase process beginning in 1996, it has slowly evolved into the modern, multi-use space that it is today. This has been possible through the generous support of community funders, volunteers and local Arts Heroes like you.

Now we need to shake up the cistern - and give our loos some love!

Some context… In 2017 we future-proofed the building with seismic strengthening, creation of backstage facilities, a new workshop space, upgrades in the Black Box, AND the addition of the accessibility ramp outside The Meteor’s new front entrance. But the rudimentary public restrooms from 1980’s Skateworld remained…

Yes, there is a subtle charm to the ‘80s flashback patrons receive with every flush BUT today we recognise the need for a transformation of our toilets! Hygienic, modern and functional facilities are essential in a post pandemic world, and the next phase of The Meteor’s development is to reignite our restrooms and invest in public facilities that will be used by our audiences for the next 45 years.

We are seeking the investment of you, our crowd-funding community, towards our ablution’s solutions! Please support The Meteor Theatre’s plan to upgrade our bathrooms in 2021. Your donation will ensure that The Meteor remains a space for the community to share creative experiences for many years into the future.

THE BENEFITS OF LOVING OUR LOOS:

• A new facility comprising ten unisex toilets (including two accessible toilets).
• Each toilet will be self-contained with hand washing and drying facilities.
• Owing to the Covid-19 precautions, hands-free options will be included for the toilet flush valves and basin taps.
• Enhancing the everyone’s experience through clean and modern private stalls.
• Easier to maintain to high cleanliness standards for the hundreds of events we host annually.
• Audiences are not detracted by their Meteor bathroom experience.
• And… No more queues for the women’s toilets!

The Meteor’s iconic Blackbox Theatre is the Waikato’s most innovative, accessible and affordable Performing Arts venue. We work hard to enhance the performing arts in Hamilton and NZ by providing a vibrant and thriving venue for theatre, music, dance, poetry, exhibitions, workshops, comedy, improv…and much, much more.

We’re here for our community, for all the people who need a jumping point for their creative plunge or a landing zone for their touring work. And we’re here for our audience too. Because now, more than ever, we need the connection of live arts experiences that transport us beyond our lives, into other stories and other worlds...
