Loner
Wendell Cooke | Film
Overview
Loner is a short film written by Mike Yule and Wendell Cooke that was short-listed by the New Zealand Film Commission in 2012 from over 200 projects. Now, efforts are underway to shoot Loner with the support of the Arts Foundation and generous donors.
Loner is a black comedy about a socially-challenged man who just wants someone to sign his gun license application. The story grew out of an innocent request from a friend to sign their partner's gun license renewal form. Mike and Wendell deferred in good grace, but found this raised some interesting (and amusing) questions, such as how well should you know someone in order to vouch for them, and, how does a person with no friends go about applying for a gun license??...
We plan to deliver an entertaining, blackly comic film that tonally could be a cross between the serious drama of In My Father's Den, and the socially-awkward comedy of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
Look out for updates on the Boosted website, and our Loner Facebook page.
