Lifeworld in five parts - South Island tour
Kerrin Burns | Dance
Overview
Lifeworld (in five parts) by Claire O'Neil elevates the everyday in a grand theatre of objects where movement, humour and social commentary collide. O'Neil is highly regarded for her bold, energetic movement and innovative works, and her last work for Footnote, MTYLand, was one of the hits of the New Zealand Festival in 2010. Lifeworld has been praised by critics for its power to uplift and enthrall an audience.
'Simply terrific dancing' - The Dominion Post
'Quirky, humourous and absorbing' - Theatreview
'An absolute joy to watch' - DANZ
After a successful North Island tour of six centres, Footnote are now focused on touring world class dance to the south. We're a national arts organisation based in Wellington and the thought of performing in the South Island again is really exciting. Our NOW 2016 tour included Dunedin and Invercargill, and our budgets for the year meant those were to be our only South Island performances. The dance-loving people of Christchurch and Nelson are reluctant to accept this, and they have told us so many times. 'Footnote North Island Dance?', they say. 'When is this coming to Christchurch?'
It would mean the world to us to perform Lifeworld in Christchurch. And Nelson. And also Greymouth, because when did a national contemporary dance company last present in the beautiful West Coast?! The reality is we can't do this without asking our friends to pitch in. Creating sustainable careers in dance and presenting world class dance to as much of New Zealand as possible is so important to us, and delivering on this commitment can't happen without us reaching out to ask for help in getting across the strait.
Can you help us venture south?
