ABOUT MEANWHILE

MEANWHILE is more than just a gallery - it is a vital part of the creative community. We provide a space for artists to come together, experiment, and connect in meaningful ways. Our events and exhibitions are designed to inspire and challenge artists and audiences, and we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity in all we do.

For 8 years MEANWHILE has been a thriving hub for creativity and innovation, leaving a significant mark on Te Whanganui-a-Tara and beyond. We showcase unique talents and perspectives, enriching the arts scene with a range of events including exhibitions, performances, workshops, gigs, and book launches. Since the beginning we’ve operated as a voluntarily run space and have had significance in catalysing emerging and experimental practices whilst remaining accessible to all.

Unfortunately, our current financial situation is dire. As we sit between uncertain funding applications we need your help to keep this gallery alive. We have previously been grateful to receive support from CCS and gallery fundraising initiatives, but are having to ask for a little more love from our community. A donation at any level will help ensure MEANWHILE continues to present an exciting and free programme this year and beyond.

YOUR IMPACT

Your donation will ensure the future of MEANWHILE and allow us to fund the creatives involved with every project. We pay our artists, designers, writers and photographers which totals ~$910 per show. Your donation goes directly towards supporting & sustaining the careers of talented artists in Aotearoa, and helps us continue to pay the regular costs incurred by the gallery.

We are grateful for any form of support and hope that you will consider donating to MEANWHILE. We believe that art should be accessible to all, and your contribution can help us keep this a reality. You will help us:

• Continue to maintain and renovate our space to be a fully functional, professional gallery.
• Provide wages for the creatives involved with each exhibition (artist, designer, photographer and writer).
• Cover our regular building costs, such as rent, wifi and power.
• Establish new initiatives to give back to our community, including kai for our gallery sitters and paid internships & residencies.

WHO ARE WE?

MEANWHILE is run by a team of volunteers based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Ben, Blake, Daniel, Fahsai, Grace, Jess, Julia, Kate, Naoise, Sabina, Stephen & Tricia).

We are a collective of artists who have graduated from various tertiary institutions across the motu. In addition to our love of art and Pōneke's creative communities, we are all driven individuals juggling our jobs and personal art projects. 

Our diverse experiences working and exhibiting in the industry allow us to bring a fresh perspective to the local art scene. We have an array of exhibitions and events lined up, and are eager to bring them to fruition with your support.
