OUR STORY:

K?rearea is a unique story of friendship between a wild bird of prey and her trainer. Fern, a New Zealand falcon, has been lovingly trained by her falcon trainer Diana over the last 6 years and together they have developed an incredible bond.

Worryingly, k?rearea are now classified as a New Zealand venerable species with potentially only 5000 left in the wild.

But Fern and Diana are determined to work together inspiring others to get behind the New Zealand falcon and turn their numbers around.

Our documentary film "K?rearea" will give you an insight into what it takes to care for and train a wild New Zealand falcon and why this species is so important to our native ecosystem.

Our short film has been selected to be made as part of the Loading Docs initiative. Along with principal funder NZ On Air and with support from the New Zealand Film Commission and Te M?ngai P?ho, they want to see the film get made just as much as we do.

CROWDFUNDING:

Loading Docs will provide $4,450 towards our film and cover post-production costs, but only as long as we reach our minimum crowdfunding goal of $2000.00. We have a stretch goal to crowdfund $6000.00 towards this project to really help bring Fern and Diana's story to life!

HOW WILL DONATIONS BE USED?

All donations will go towards the cost of producing this film. It will cover the crews travel to get down to Blenheim, all of our camera and sound gear, food, transport and accommodation.

WHERE WILL THIS FILM GO?

K?rearea will be released online through the Loading Docs website and TVNZ On Demand. We will also aim to get it into a range of different film festivals so that this important conservation message can be spread far and wide!
