KAITIAKI

KAITIAKI is a short documentary that follows a group of men embarking on a journey of self-discovery, love, and healing with The Kaitiaki Project.

Like a call to prayer, the men gather in an unfamiliar place at dawn. We set out on a journey with them, a day of work lies ahead, and we explore the ways in which the Kaitiaki lead these men on to a path of forgiveness and healing.

This documentary is brought to you by Deijah Perese (Writer & Director), and Calvin Raass (Producer).

The Kaitiaki Project is an incredible organisation that focuses on empowering our people. They share tools that help us heal from the mamae (pain) a lot of us carry. They teach us to love ourselves, to give gratitude and to live the life we are meant to live. We must own our stories and our experiences. Forgive and let go. Embrace what makes us vulnerable. Vulnerability begets growth.

As filmmaker's, the stories we share are ones that we believe in, that we are passionate about. That is why we have chosen this story for our final project of our Screen Production major at AUT. This story delves deep into the trials and tribulations of our people, the importance of wellbeing and reclaiming your power.

In order to bring this film to life, we need your help funding it! We want this film to be the best it can be, and this is where you come in.

Your donations will go towards:

A Koha to the organisation The Kaitiaki Project. This group is the reason why so many of our men and women are finally realising they are enough, that they are worthy. The Kaitiaki Project has opened up their space for us and we want to make sure they are able to continue the incredible work they are doing for our people.

Transportation. Our crew comes from all around Auckland! We need to make sure we are able to get our crew to and from our shoot.

Food. Filmmaking is hard work, food is essential to keep ourselves and our crew energised during our shoot.

Post-production. This process will take our film to the next level and give it that extra umph we are after.

No matter the size of the donation, big or small, anything will be truly appreciated. Your donation brings us closer to our goal of making KAITIAKI as successful as we know it can be.
