DANCING MIND FILMS presents JUNE
JUNE is a short film that will be made by a collaborative team of award winning film-makers, cinematic artists, actors, musicians, and special effects technicians from Peter Jackson's Weta-Digital.
JUNE is a story about the fragility of life; the primal forces that drive and control us and the mystery of hope and new beginnings. This one day in the month of June holds raw despair for partners Willow and David, unleashing their carnal natures but a last minute transcendent occurrence offers them the hope of a new life.
JUNE is short film vision designed to exercise my worlds as a filmmaker, actor and visual artist and is a collaboration between a selection of award winning cinematic artists and film technicians, including special effects from Peter Jackson's Weta-Digital team. The team also includes award winning Auckland based SFX artists, music score composer Rhian Sheehan (who won Best Original Music Score at the 2010 NZ Film Awards), award winning time lapse and astronomy photographer Mark Gee (Mark won the 2013 Astronomy Photographer of the Year Award) and award winning cinematographer Andrew Stroud whose career highlights include short films 'Ellen is Leaving' and '43,000 Feet' (which were both NZ Film Festival finalists). Andrew won Best Short Film Cinematographer of the year at the 2013 NZ Film Awards for his short film Echoes, produced by Harvey Weinstein and was the cinematographer for LORDE'S music video ROYALS.
The prolific and much respected Miranda Harcourt will be working with our team of actors, which include the very talented Sarah James who stars as Willow, my very gifted friend John Callen who played one of the lead dwarves OIN in The Hobbit Trilogy and the brilliant Brooke Williams who recently starred opposite Michael Fassbender in the film Slow West (which won the World Cinema Dramatic Jury Prize at Sundance last month). I will play the role of David in June.
My previous short film Holding The Sun, I wrote, directed, starred in, edited, and produced. Holding The Sun was accepted into the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Short Film Corner and was nominated for Best Self-Funded Short Film and Outstanding Contribution in Production Design at the 2013 New Zealand Film Awards. I am a self taught actor, painter, sculptor, screenwriter and film maker with 20 years experience. See more at my official website.
JUNE is a peek into the private life of a couple as they are tested to the absolute limit by life's forces. This intimate portrait will be framed with spacious European cinematic sensibilities and specialized technical skills from a group of refined artists to help deliver a stunning and unique visual language.
