How To Art
Charlie Underhill | Theatre
Overview
WHAT ARE YOU BOOSTING?
‘How to Art’ is a physical theatre-clown-fruit mash-up premiering at Basement Theatre from 12-16 November 2024. This unique production explores the value of the arts and art-making practices in Aotearoa today, fusing physical theatre, clown, object design, and film. We're seeking a boost for the final stages of production and delivery to bring this fruity adventure to life.
WHO ARE YOU BOOSTING?
‘How to Art’ is the debut work from Ratbags, a collaborative hothouse for multi-disciplinary performance in Tāmaki Makaurau, led by Katie Burson. Born from the creative minds of Katie Burson and Georgie Llewellyn, the ‘How to Art’ team is:
- Katie Burson (Co-direction/performance)
- Georgie Llewellyn (Co-direction/performance)
- Bronwyn Ensor (Performance)
- Charlie Underhill (Producer)
- Tse-Yu Lin (Object design)
- Daniel Collings (Costume and textile)
- Rob Byrne (Production design and Marketing)
- Alylai Flynn (Lighting design and Stage management)
Our creative practice combines physical theatre, clowning, and innovative storytelling to create immersive theatrical experiences.
THE FRUIT!
‘How to Art’ tells the story of two bananas who wake up duct-taped to the wall of a prestigious art gallery and meet their maker. This project has been in development for the past two years, supported by artistic residencies with Wellesley Studios, Capital E, and TAPAC.
Our show will run at the Basement Theatre Studio from 12th - 16th November 2024, operating on a 'Pay What You Choose' model to ensure accessibility for all community members.
WHERE IS YOUR BOOST GOING?
We're raising money for:
- Costume production
- Set construction
- Props creation
- Rehearsal space rental
These funds will help our team realise their artistic vision and elevate the quality of our production.
YOUR IMPACT!
‘How to Art’ offers a joyful, immersive theatrical experience that invites audiences to participate in the unfolding action. By supporting this project, you'll be:
- Helping to uplift the arts community in Tāmaki Makaurau
- Supporting independent artists and unique hybrid theatre forms
- Raising awareness of the value of arts in society
- Enabling a sustainable work that can be toured and further developed for even more audiences
In an industry that often values youth, perfection, and mass production, your support will help two bruised bananas go the distance and create a meaningful artistic experience for our community.
