Overview

"Home by Now" is an 8-minute short film that centers on Georgia, a 22-year-old university student on the brink of adulthood. After a night of revelry at a party, Georgia wakes up with fragmented memories and a deep sense of unease, suspecting she may have experienced a sexual assault. As she grapples with the gravity of the situation, Georgia finds herself yearning for the presence of her childhood best friend and unrequited love, Kitty. When Kitty unexpectedly re-enters her life, Georgia sees an opportunity to navigate the aftermath of the night together, finding solace and strength in their enduring bond. "Home by Now" is a poignant exploration of trauma, friendship, and the healing journey, unfolding over eight gripping minutes.

FILM TREATMENT/STATEMENT

"Home by Now" is a heartfelt exploration of resilience, compassion, and the transformative power of human connection. Through its authentic portrayal of trauma and healing, the film offers a poignant reminder that, even in the darkest of times, we are never truly alone.

This film is crucial because it addresses a pressing issue for this generation, particularly women, shedding light on the importance of consent and the impact of sexual assault.

In a media landscape fraught with the cancellation and misrepresentation of sapphic stories and characters, "Home by Now" stands as a beacon of authenticity and representation. It is a story created by and for women, with a non-male crew, amplifying diverse voices and experiences that are often marginalized in mainstream narratives. As we strive for inclusivity and empowerment, "Home by Now" serves as both a reflection of our collective struggles and a testament to the strength found in solidarity and sisterhood.

WHO ARE WE?

Our team comprises 11 Victoria University students, mainly led by 3rd-year students who oversee departments for their final course assignment. Driven by love and passion for the short film, they've enlisted other crew members to support the creative vision and provide some training and skill-building opportunities, particularly for 1st-year film students, to introduce them to the industry and enhance their skills for future work.

Additionally, we're committed to supporting young actors in New Zealand! We've casted local actors studying at Victoria University, aiming to nurture and elevate their performances while giving them valuable on-set experience.
