Henchmen - a new play by Amy Wright

Kia ora! We (Mark, Amy, Kate, Awa, Sam, Bekky, Mabel, Brit, Ben and Tessa) are staging the first ever season of HENCHMEN, a new play by up and coming New Zealand playwright, Amy Wright, and we need to raise some money to make it happen!

What is HENCHMEN about?

Growing up on Bond movies, Amy often wondered what happened to the Henchpeople working in low level jobs for Evil Villains. Whilst they're usually portrayed as insignificant cogs in terrifying, merciless machines, surely they all have their own stories? Who do they go home to after work? What do they do on the weekend? How likely would they be to recommend their workplace to a friend? 

It was these questions that called the script of HENCHMEN into being.

Synopsis:

HENCHMEN is a chaotic, silly, and thoughtful dramedy (drama/comedy!) that follows the story of Steve and Lou - two people working an average office job: paperwork; upper middle management; trying to look busy while doing as little as possible; intermittent secret agent raids; regular deliveries of sharks; daily announcements from the Evil Villain Overlord.

Set in the Incoming Cargo department of an Evil Lair, this ‘Playwrights b4 25’ highly commended script invites its audience to investigate the currency of time.

We’ve been fortunate to receive funding from Creative New Zealand to pay our team for their time BUT! we still need to fundraise $3,500 to cover the basic costs of putting on the play (set, props, costumes, rehearsal space hire, licensing, and marketing).
