The Project

Auckland Chamber Choir Viva Voce has been invited to a major New Zealand festival in China, not only to showcase NZ's proud choral heritage but to promote the World Symposium on Choral Music, to be held in Auckland in 2020. But to get there, we need some help.

The Target
We're seeking to raise a minimum of $3,000 towards the costs of this trip. While our hosts will cover accommodation and meals, and almost all choir members have now paid for their own airfares and visas, we need to raise these additional funds to help a few of our singers with their costs. They're important for our sound, and they're very much part of the choir.

Viva Voce
In 2018 Auckland chamber choir Viva Voce celebrates 33 years of existence. It's been a busy life. We've given over 500 concerts, performed at a host of public, corporate and private engagements, recorded heaps of ads, been broadcast frequently by Radio New Zealand and featured now and then on TV. We've sung with all the big orchestras, mounted our own semi-staged productions of Dido & Aeneas, Solomon, Jephte and Messiah, and premired dozens of new works by Kiwi composers. What's more, we've undertaken some 25 tours to different parts of NZ, from Kerikeri to Invercargill. But we've never been overseas. Ever!

The Project
Earlier this year, VV's founder and conductor John Rosser - who moonlights as Artistic Director of the 12 th World Symposium on Choral Music (to be held in Auckland in July 2020) - received an invitation from the President of the New Zealand federation to bring his choir to Beijing this July to sing at the biggest choral festival in China and promote NZ's Symposium. We kind of had to say yes. There will be 260 choirs (and their conductors) from all over the world to talk to there, and we've been asked to sing a programme in three featured concerts at two large, prestigious venues - the Beijing Concert Hall and the Grand Theatre of the Tianqiao Performing Arts Centre. Needless to say, it's a wonderful opportunity.

Viva Voce's trip to China will not only boost the profile of New Zealand choral music abroad but should also have valuable spin-off for our country's own massive world event in 2020! We would very much appreciate your help in reaching our target.
