HELP PLAY_STATION

play_station is an artist-run gallery and studio space in the heart of Pōneke. Since opening in 2016, we have presented numerous shows and events by artists from Aotearoa and beyond, prioritising emerging and experimental practice.

ABOUT PLAY_STATION

We give artists a chance to test their ideas in an equipped, supportive space, and provide a place for the community to gather and engage with exciting art. We are proud that artists do not have to pay to exhibit at play_station, and we are supported by the Wellington City Council to provide modest exhibition fees to our exhibiting artists, our photographer, and our designer. We see that there is still a need for exhibition and event spaces, such as play_station, which provide opportunities for artists in a way that is financially stable and accessible. ⁣

WE NEED SUPPORT

We are seeking support from play_station’s community to help us with the maintenance and ongoing costs of running the gallery. These costs might not be so glamorous, but are vital in ensuring we can remain a functional, secure, and professional gallery.

They include staying on top of our month-to-month bills, buying new tech, printing and promotional costs, insurance, and keeping the space pretty— like putting another coat of paint on our chipped floor! ⁣

In the past, facilitators have paid monthly sums of money (on top of working voluntarily) to help with these costs, so we hope this fund will make this burden no longer necessary.⁣

⁣OUR TEAM

Our team consists of Maddi Walker, Bena Jackson, Max Fleury, Connor Fitzgerald, Moya Lawson and Tyler Jackson.

We are a group of artists and curators based in Pōneke and are alumni of the city’s tertiary institutions. We also hold down our own jobs, pursue our own art projects, and bring our individual experiences of working and exhibiting in the industry. We have a fresh line-up of exhibitions and events set for 2021, and delivering this will be made a lot easier with your support. ⁣

⁣If everyone chips in, we can keep doing what play_station does best! Every little bit counts and will make a huge difference to the running of a not-for-profit art gallery. ⁣
