Overview
HELP MODERN M?ORI QUARTET SUIT UP AND GET TO ASIA
As Modern M?ori Quartet (MMQ) we've been having a laugh with all our choice audiences all over Aotearoa for the past 18 months. It's been memories for life for us boys. Sharing the aroha and doing what we love is what we're about.
Now we're off to Asia - we're excited to have been invited to perform at the 10th Sharq Taronalari New Zealand Music Festival in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from 25 - 31 August - we'll be the first NZers (Surely the first M?ori, eh?) competing there since 2007. Fuuuu.
On the way to this new whenua we are also doing shows in PJ Live Arts in Malaysia on 23 August and SingJazz Club in Singapore on 1 September. It's on Te way so why not share a bit more Aroha?
This is a special opportunity for us to show new and diverse audiences in ?hia a slice of what Aotearoa means to us as a group. Beautiful and special. There is no place like home and we will be bringing the good ol' garage party to these fullas to see what the fuss is all about!
Wh?nau ma - we need your help to get our best dressed selves over to Asia! We're excited to represent our beautiful country on the world stage, but we need some extra putea to help us get there.
With the generous tautoko of Creative New Zealand and the Sharq Taronalari Festival Directorate, we've secured funds for New Zealand flights, freight and rehearsal costs, but we need to raise $10,000 for places to crash on the way, some flash suits and on the ground costs.
Your support, no matter what size, will help us suit up, wear our whakapapa with pride and show this tumeke part of the world what M?ori showbands are all about.
Arohanui kia koutou katoa,
MMQ x

WHO WE ARE
Modern M?ori Quartet (MMQ) is a good looking, suave and multi-talented M?ori foursome who aspire to be global cultural ambassadors for Aotearoa, representing the revival of a proud heritage of world-class M?ori showbands. Performers James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Jamie McCaskill (standing in for Francis Kora) have come together from different corners of New Zealand to perform their signature cabaret show An Evening with the Modern M?ori Quartet.
Based in Auckland, New Zealand, the Modern M?ori Quartet is a contemporary M?ori showband in the vein of late great M?ori Showbands of yesteryear, such as the Hi-Marks, M?ori Volcanics Showband, Dalvanius and the Fascinations, Maori Troubadours, Maori Hi Five, Quin Tikis and The Howard Morrison Quartet.
The repertoire includes a wide range of traditional M?ori music, which have been given a contemporary treatment, as well as contemporary music that have been imbued with their unique flavour and twist. Modern M?ori Quartet's shows promise a trip down memory lane into New Zealand's musical past and present as well as recent New Zealand hits, imbued with song, humour and charm.
