Headland: Literary Frontiers and Emerging Voices

The Project
We love reading and we love writing.
And, in particular, we love the work of New Zealand's talented literary community. We also believe that there are a lot of people with a story inside them who might not currently believe that they can share that story with the world. With Headland, we want to connect more writers with an audience, and inspire more audiences to write.
Headland will welcome submissions of short fiction and creative non-fiction from New Zealand, as well as seeking to publish an New Zealand story in each issue. Our vision is to create a publication that is approachable for all writers, regardless of their qualifications or previous work. We will publish what we love, by whomever has written it.
And it's not just writers that we hope will benefit from Headland. For readers, too, we are seeking to create portable moments of escape, exploration and reflection. As such, the journal will make use of digital publishing as a convenient and popular format. Short and frequent issues will make for bite-sized servings of quality literature, occasionally themed or helmed by a guest editor.
Every member of our team is a volunteer, drawing on experience in academia, the local publishing scene, communications, or as a writer. Our ultimate goal is to pay writers for the privilege of communicating their work. Can you boost us a bit further towards this goal?
