Overview

What is HARDLY WORKING?

HARDLY WORKING is a new play exploring the lives of an eclectic bunch of 20-some-things scrambling to find a sense of purpose and this week’s rent, amidst perpetual uncertainty.

About HARDLY WORKING

"The show invites us into moments of quiet intimacy, terrible jobs, breakups, first love, self-doubt, life-changing epiphanies, inexplicable sexual fantasies and sheer, unending existential dread"

"Funny, moving and devastatingly honest, this is a show that reflects the epic scope of feelings that accompany youthful unknowing."

Lucy, (aged 24) the writer of HARDLY WORKING:

“I wrote this play as a result of my last couple of years; post drama school, global pandemic shaken, hopping between minimum wage jobs, saying goodbye to my ‘early twenties’ and finding myself on the polar opposite ends of the hope and despair scale. This show is a way of transforming my feelings of being lost into something fun, honest and an opportunity for a bunch of talented young artists I know- to get work again after all this time away from what they love”

WE NEED YOU to make this happen!

Unfortunately, like many artists around the country right now- our plans have been drastically altered by the return of covid to the community, the result of which has meant the cancellation of our season at Q Theatre. Rather than performing at Q for “Summer at Q” season, we will now be adapting this show firstly for a smaller, private audience at an outside venue and then later, for the screen- in the form of a feature film. The film will be part-documentary, part-fiction- capturing the process of us continuing to make a piece of work that is an honest reflection of our lives, while living in perpetual uncertainty. As an unfunded company, both of these endeavours are still being funded entirely from our own pockets.

The costs raised through this Boosted campaign will be used for production: i.e. lighting equipment, rehearsal space, materials for the set, props, costume, online marketing for the release of the film and artist fees for designers, performers, mentors and our director- as we continue to commit time to this evolving project. As we are now not charging a set price for tickets (the live performance will be Koha and the film will be accessible for all) this funding is crucial for the sustainability of the continuation of this project.

HELP US make something fresh.

This is a piece of work we, cast and crew, believe in and care about deeply, so much so that against all odds, we have decided to forge ahead. We are incredibly grateful for all the support shown so far and now just need a small push to get us over the finish line. We have a really amazing opportunity to make something cool, exciting and fresh, and we would be incredibly grateful to have your help on that journey.
