Happy Valentines from "Got the Spirit"
Kia ora, and happy Valentine's Day!
We're sorry for ghosting you all since our boosted campaign finished. It's been a crazy ride since we last got in touch, and we wanted to update you on how it's been for the team since we wrapped shooting.
First of all - we finished the film!
After a week of production, and many days and nights going crosseyed in the post production suites at Massey, Got the Spirit premiered at Massey's Exposure Exhibition alongside all the other fantastic films from our 2023 cohort.
We also hosted a friends and family showing of the film at the Penthouse Cinema, which was truly gratifying and lovely to watch it with whānau on the big screen. Hopefully, a lot of you got to see the film there or at Exposure, but if not, there's a special valentine's day treat at the end of this email...
We're proud beyond words with how the film came out, and we couldn't have done it without your belief and support. Your money went towards Toby's amazing props and set dressing, paying our talented actors and amazing composer Mason, and most importantly it paid for our delicious kai on set. A film can't be made by one person alone, and you were always on our mind on set. If we haven't said it enough to drive you crazy already; THANK YOU!!
Never fear, however - the spirit lives on! We're now trying to get Got the Spirit in front of as many eyes as possible, through submitting it to film festivals, both local and international. This is going to be a long process, but you can be sure that if we have any further updates about how this mission goes, we'll share it on our Instagram (@gotthespirit.film) or through another email update like this one. For our overseas backers, be assured that we're focusing on applying to festivals in countries where our donors live, so that you'll hopefully get the opportunity to watch Got the Spirit on a proper high quality cinema screen.
Now for our valentines day gift - Got the Spirit is now available to watch exclusively for donors through a private Vimeo link! We want to give back to you generous folk as best we can, so what better way to do that than to show you the fruits of your donations? This link is exclusive to backers, crew, and festival selection committees, so we ask that you only share it privately with whānau who have supported Got the Spirit 's journey, and refrain from leaving comments on the vimeo page. We'd love to hear your feedback directly via email, instagram DM, or for those of you who know us personally, you know we'd love to get a text!

We kept one more surprise until last... We also have a behind-the-scenes video that you can watch too! The link is below, and the same password will work for both videos. We recommend watching the behind-the-scenes after you've seen the film to avoid any potential spoilers...

Much love,
Molly, Tom, Kate, and the entire Got the Spirit team.
Ngā mihi nui!
Wrapped and into Post-Production!!
Kia ora all of our lovely backers,
It's been a while since we've given you an update, but here it is:
We've wrapped!! We shot for a week in mid August which was the most fun, creative, and satisfying few days we could've asked for. All of our cast and crew were fantastic, and now we have the difficult job of taking all the amazing footage into an editing suite and making the actual film!
We're about a month away from our deadline, so over the next few weeks we're all going to be hard at work putting the finishing touches on Got the Spirit for you all. We couldn't have got here without all of your support, and we're making it with you all in mind. Can't wait for you to see it.
Much love,
Tom and Molly, and the Got the Spirit team
100%!!
Thank you so much for taking us to 100% of our goal! We’re so overwhelmed with the amount of support and encouragement we’ve got from you all. It means so much to us as students looking to grow. Consider our spirits BOO-sted!! (no funds were allocated to the development of our ghost puns. sorry).
This means we can pay our incredible actors and composers, feed our crew, and make the world of the film as beautiful as we see it in our heads. Much love to you all, and see you on screen!!
