Overview
An aspiring TV writer must weigh her future in the film industry against a bloody request
The Project
GOOD SPORT is a short film by Lisa Shaw and produced by Bianca Delalic. The film follows Natalie Davis, a writer's assistant on a television show who has always dreamed of becoming a writer. After several years of false promises and disappointments, Natalie starts to give up hope. Until one day, the Producer offers her a chance to become a writer. The catch? She has to kill the lead actress to get there.
Natalie is faced with an abhorrent request and grapples with the morality of taking another person's life. But with her dream finally, within reach, is this what she has to do?
This story is not only an entertaining and gripping tale, but it also explores important themes surrounding the price of ambition and the lengths people are willing to go to achieve their goals. In making this film, we are committed to using a satirical lens to highlight the sometimes absurd and toxic work culture that often pervades not only the entertainment industry, but many other highly competitive work environments.
The Team
Writer/Director:
Lisa Shaw is a writer and director who actively works in the film and television industry. She had the privilege of starting out her writing career on New Zealand’s longest running drama. She has a passion for character-driven storytelling and already has several short films under her belt. Lisa is developing several scripts, ranging from short films to feature films and plays. Some of Lisa’s directing credits include the short films No Vaccancy (2017), I’m Morgan (2013) and The Perfect Reunion (2012).
Producer:
Bianca Delalic is a documentary filmmaker who is shifting into the scripted storytelling space. In the span of three years, she has gone from coordinating to managing and now assistant producing New Zealand on Air funded productions. Some of which include You, Me and Anxiety (2022), Unbreakable (2022) and Brave New Zealand World (2022). In her spare time she has also produced the short documentary, When Nobody Was Looking (2020), and is developing several more shorts. She is passionate about telling stories that focus on themes surrounding identity and mental health.
Director of Photography:
Pepe De Hoyos moved to New Zealand from his native, Mexico, in 2006 to hone his craft. Sixteen years later, he is a DOP with experience in many different genres and formats. Most recently winning the award for “Best Cinematography” at the 48 Hours Film Festival NZ in 2022. His work has also been nominated in the Documentary category of the NZ Cinematographers Society in 2021. No matter the size of the production Pepe’s passion for storytelling and creativity shines.
The GOOD SPORT team will create a collaborative environment that empowers filmmakers of all levels to have their voices heard. To bring this vision to life, they need community support.
What You Can Do
By donating to this project, you will not only contribute to a conversation that needs to be had about work culture, you will also support the careers of more than 15 New Zealand-based creatives who are ready to sink their teeth into the next challenge. Filmmakers who are ready to flex their skills and hone their craft.
As a token of our appreciation, any donors who contribute more than $200 will receive a credit in the final short film.
Your donation will go towards production and post-production costs, such as equipment rentals, location fees, actor and crew compensation, editing, colour grading, sound design, and more. Every little bit counts and your contribution will not only help us make this film a reality but also help raise awareness for the themes and issues it tackles.
It's worth noting that Boosted is a charity organisation. This means that New Zealand income earners may qualify for a tax credit. Any donations made will be provided with a receipt by The Arts Foundation.
Thank you for considering supporting our project. Together, we can use the power of storytelling to shed light on important issues and make a difference in the world.
