What will this Boosted Campaign fund?

Good Men will be a relatively low-budget shoot for a 10 minute short film, with a total budget of $7,500. The funding will come through a combination of creator investment and crowdfunding.

Ranson and Timmins will be investing significantly beyond the official fund, in particular with the Art Department and Set Dressing, accumulating and creating pieces to develop the world/characters leading up to the shoot day.

Although creative input and execution makes a good film great, funding is essential to actually get the film created at all and will be allocated to things such as: Cast/Crew wages, Location (including travel and accommodation costs), Costume, Props/set dressing, and more.

With your help raising money for these costs, Good Men will have characters on the screen and a talented crew behind the camera, to bring our bizarre Western world to life.

Good Men is a project of both passion and high standards. From crafting our own set pieces to designing our own gory special effects, Good Men is set to be a film that stands out from the status quo and brings you a professionally executed film which is anything but clinical.

Who are the creators of Good Men?

Patrick Ranson (co-writer/co-director)

Good Men will be the DEBUT film for Ranson, making this an exciting opportunity to support upcoming New Zealand Filmmakers. This film will open doors for developing his future projects, such as feature films (writer/director) and a short horror story podcast (writer/director).

Lucy Timmins (co-writer/co-director)

Timmins is an emerging New Zealand filmmaker, with short films selected and screened in festivals such as Show Me Shorts, Tropfest and more. She has experience working with little or no budget to produce these films, making her capable of utilising resources and creativity. However, this will be her first funded project - a significant moment in her career path and (once again,) an exciting opportunity to support upcoming New Zealand filmmakers.

What Good Men is, at its very core, is a silly movie. A silly fun movie, brilliantly disguised under the banner of being your cookie cutter thriller/drama.

Bringing together these distinctly opposite genres and finding that subtle balance between the two, will make this short film the perfect dark comedy that everyone has been looking for.

Not only that, but we are making the most out of New Zealand's unique but beautiful landscapes. Where else can you find a dry Desert Road with a backdrop of an awesome icy peaked mountain looming in the distance?

Well, the answer is Rangipo Desert - which is exactly where we will be shooting the entirety of this film.

So, with a key theme of contrast running through the story, whether that's  genre or location, the complexity of the characters themselves should not be a surprise. Three men, each one with a unique and unpredictable personality.

Good Men does not give you a main character, it is up to you to decide. Who’s side are you on? Who do you root for? And maybe most important of all, is there anything good about these men?
