WHAT is Art Islands Tokyo you ask?

Art Islands Tokyo is an New Zealand Contemporary Art Exhibition. This will be the sixth year of this truly unique residency opportunity, and I am lucky enough to have been selected to be one of the New Zealand artists participating in 2016. Whoa.

HOW does it work?

This residency is held on the two islands of Oshima and Niijima from the 22nd August - 18th of September. All the resident artists (31 in total) will stay on the island and are required to make their artworks once on the island! This exhibition is open to the public from the 3rd of September, which means we only have 11 days in which to create and complete our artworks.

WHAT I will be creating:

My collaborator Ami Martin (aka Cooki Stains) and I will be hosting a series of performances inspired by our divination into the modern day witch. Would she adapt to this technologically over-saturated present day environment that we find ourselves in? We will be using jewellery, sculpture, sound art and music to communicate these themes while taking into consideration the cultural landscape we find ourselves in.
