Get Harry to the Globe

The Project
In 2017 I was selected to represent New Zealand in London as a member of SGCNZ YSC 2018 (Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand Young Shakespeare Company).
I still can't believe it is happening! It's like a dream come true!
I was one of 48 out of 5000 students chosen for the SGCNZ New Zealand Shakespeare Schools Production (NSSP) in 2017. From these 48 students, I was selected as one of 24 to join SGCNZ YSC 2018 and travel to the Globe in London in July 2018.
There I will attend a course specifically designed by Globe Education in association with SGCNZ, including performing on Shakespeare's Globe stage. This will be a three-week trip focused on working with leading tutors and directors within the Globe, and experiencing many aspects first-hand of the Globe Theatre and the new Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
In the immediate future, this experience will assist as I help teach and share my passion for drama and acting with fellow students. Looking ahead at my professional goals, I would love to pursue a career in the arts and theatre, such as being involved with a professional theatre company, or making a name for myself as a theatre director.
How This Experience Will Benefit Me:
This experience is not only about developing performance skills and knowledge of Shakespeare and theatre, but also:
- Enhancing my ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively
- Manage my time and energy
- Lead as well as be part of a team
- Support and accept support
- Take direction
- Develop a life-long network of like-minded peers
As well, I will gain immeasurable self-confidence through the whole experience. All of which will transfer across into my future personal and professional life, with also being able to share the unique knowledge and skills gained to make a difference for many others.
How You Can Help:
Selection to SGCNZ YSC 2018 means I must raise $10,000 to cover all costs - this includes New Zealand and domestic travel and taxes, insurance, course fees, accommodation, meals, theatre tickets and incidental expenses. As a member of SGCNZ YSC 2018, I must also travel to Wellington to perform and represent the Young Shakespeare Company in the SGCNZ New Zealand Competition, just a month before London!
I'm already underway working part-time (school responsibilities permitting) at a local fast-food restaurant saving for the $10,000 required. Alongside this, I've received the Long Bay College Personal Excellence Award for 2018, granting me a scholarship towards my London Globe experience, for which I'm hugely grateful! My aim is to cover the remaining costs, after the scholarship and this Boosted campaign, by continuing to flip burgers!
I would like to thank everyone so far for the enormous support and encouragement, I would most certainly not be on my way without it!
Thank you!
