Get Adele to the Globe!

I am one of the lucky 10 Teachers from New Zealand to be going on the SGCNZ Teachers Go Global 2024 course in London.

I am already making a move to Scotland in April 2024 so already have my flights and accommodation sorted, now I just need to raise funds towards the cost of the course itself.

I have been a Secondary Drama teacher since 2018 and will be relocating to the UK in April to broaden my education career and enrich myself in Shakespeare and Theatre. My passion for Shakespeare stems back to the young age of 5 when I watched a Summer Shakespeare production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in my hometown, Nelson New Zealand. I've been a performer, director, producer, and educator in Theatre ever since. It has been a lifelong goal of mine to perform on the stage at The Globe Theatre in London, and this is an opportunity of a lifetime for me! The course itself will enrich my knowledge of Shakespeare's performance, text, and direction.

SGCNZ’s Teachers Go Global (SGCNZ TGG) comprises an intensive two-week professional development program at Shakespeare’s Globe, London in the July school holidays running parallel with SGCNZ’s Young Shakespeare Company study and performance tour. SGCNZ TGG provides the chance to work with Globe Education practitioners and a director in workshops and rehearsals, culminating in a performance on the Globe stage for an invited public audience! Workshops include Teaching Practice, Text, Movement, Voice, Music, Film, Costume, Dance…all geared towards teaching secondary and primary-aged students.

I plan to eventually return to New Zealand and bring Shakespeare to more communities within New Zealand particularly in the education sector. With this course, I will be able to help develop resources for teachers to ensure our rangatahi (youth) can access Drama education through Shakespeare. I will also be a fierce ambassador for SGCNZ, as what Dawn has created is one of the essential lifelines for Drama education in Aotearoa.

The fees for myself at present sit at $5000 because I will already be in the UK. Any contribution towards this will be greatly appreciated as the majority of my savings are going towards my move to Scotland. The actual workshop fees (including theatre tickets) are $3700.
