Gamelan Tour to Indonesia

Overview
Kiwi Gamelan Musicians Tour to Indonesia. Two Indonesian music ensembles, Javanese Gamelan Padhang Moncar and Balinese Gamelan Taniwha Jaya (25 people in all!) have been invited to perform at the New Zealand Gamelan Festival in the city of Yogyakarta in early July.
We need your help to get there! We will take with us new home-grown repertoire for gamelan, created by innovative young NZ composers under the mentorship of well-known composers Jack Body and Gareth Farr. We will perform these exciting works as well as traditional compositions in villages, towns and cities across the islands of Java and Bali during our two and a half week tour.
Gamelan has established a unique presence in New Zealand's multi-cultural musical landscape. Featuring gongs and other bronze percussion instruments, gamelan has a long tradition in New Zealand, particularly in Wellington - of over 30 years! The current group's range of ages and cultures reflects this tradition and passion for gamelan.
