From inside a Bubble

Hello Everyone,

I am raising money to cover the rental costs for a solo show I am hosting in October at Upstairs Gallery on Level One of Lopdell House in the gorgeous Titirangi.

Why did I call this project "From inside a bubble"?

Well, this exhibition was created in the year 2020. Yes, Twenty Twenty.... while some people were creating sourdough (which I did as well) read the encyclopaedia cover to cover or watched everything on Netflix.... I drew.

In this exhibition, there are 21 drawings in total, all of which are of influential, personally inspiring movie directors. As someone that is an introverted homebody, who likes to consume television on a grand scale, I have looked not to actors for inspiration but to the Maestros of the Cinematic Arts for a multitude of reasons. I watch for inspiration, I watch for escapism, joy, betrayal, intrigue and love. They are masters, most of who will be household names, or maybe they won't... maybe you'll have watched their masterpieces? Or maybe you won't have.

Why am I asking for your help?

I am someone that has had a number of struggles in my life so far. I was diagnosed with Dsythymia (a form of chronic depression) in 2008. In 2010, I started to draw, which became a form of art therapy for me. The more that I drew, the less the obstructive thoughts had time to plant their roots. In 2016, I was diagnosed with a Chronic Pain condition called Fibromyalgia. This is an invisible disability that affects my mood, my fatigue levels and obviously my pain.

Fibromyalgia is debilitating for a number of reasons, the most pressing is that pain relief doesn't do much, because it is my nervous system that is in pain. It's not my body. I am betrayed by my nervous system telling me that I have pain.... The problem is, I don't have anything physically wrong with me in those areas.

This coming October the 8th, will be the opening of my exhibition. I hope that you consider helping me make this project a reality, any and all donations would be hugely appreciated.
