The Project

'Sean opens the door to the Tavern with some effort, almost as if the door had partially grown to the frame with age. As the duo step inside they are instantly met with a distinctive musk to the air. It is a heavy miasma of dust and gloom, illuminated dully by a faint stream of light peeking in through the window shades.

"This place hasn't changed one bit" Sean whispers.'

Hey there!

I'm Liam Watters, the writer and director for the short film 'Empties'. Along with my producer Abeiku Eshun, we hope to create a visually striking and thematically interesting short film based loosely on the tale of the Lotus Eaters.

ABOUT US

We are both third year communication students at AUT, majoring in Film and Television production. This project is essential for us to receive our $30,000 piece of paper early next year, as well as giving us a launch pad to the world of professional film in and around Aotearoa New Zealand!

THIS BOOSTED CAMPAIGN

This Boosted campaign exists so we can ensure a smooth pre- and post-production process, as well as everything in between! More specifically, any money kindly donated by y'all will go towards things like:

  • Securing shooting access for our main location
  • Paying our actors a Koha for their time and incredible skill!
  • Catering during the shoot.
  • Set design and art direction that will help us full realise the world we hope to create.

ABOUT THE FILM 'EMPTIES'

While visiting his home town after an extended period away, Sean decides to take his teenage son, Troy, to his old rugby club for some good old father-son bonding.

Upon their entrance, it is clear that something is off. The air is thick and musky, as if the door hadn't been opened in over 20 years. Troy notices a picture of two men on the wall, both are dressed in full rugby kit, one of the men is a younger Sean, the picture is dated 1989.

A woman sits at a table sipping away at a pint while playing a game of solitaire, she receives a call and raises a behemoth of a Nokia to her ear. By the bar, a small crowd is huddled around an old CRT television, a rugby game is on, the 1991 Bledisloe Cup. They cheer as if it were happening live.

As the pair enter the room, a man comes from behind Sean, placing his hand on his shoulder as if addressing an old friend. It is the other man from the photograph, he hasn't aged a day in over 30 years.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!

This is a project that we are immensely passionate about, any and all donations would enable us to produce this piece to the highest technical and visual quality that our burgeoning film making minds are capable of!

All contributors to this campaign will be mentioned in our final credits as without you, there is no way this film would be possible <3
