Folly Issue 2
Folly Journal | Literature
The Project
What is Folly?
Folly is an annual print only anthology of art, short stories, non-fiction and poetry published in Wellington. Unbound by academic affiliations, fiercely independent, and purposely not high brow, it produces beautiful light literary content purely designed to amuse and entertain and has been referred to as the rebel child of the literary scene.
We received over 1400 submissions for our first issue of Folly - lighter literary works, works that are funny, maybe a bit silly or a tad provocative. Our instincts were correct - there are writers being missed in New Zealand by the literary establishment. With hard work and an unwavering vision, Issue 001 of Folly was a success. We were able to secure a wide range of stockists throughout New Zealand - from Independent bookstores to fashion boutiques. The launch party saw Wellington’s Berry buiding packed - and Unity books selling out of Folly Journal on the night. Following 3 sold out print runs, we are gearing up for Issue 002 with a stronger team and infrastructure. Our goal is to continue creating a sustainable, beautiful print only publication that champions artists and publishes writers who may not otherwise be published in New Zealand.

About the Team
Folly was founded by a group of women aiming to curate quality content that is fun, silly, a bit sexy, and sometimes provocative. Emily Broadmore co-founded Folly Literary Journal with Tiana Jones, following a research trip to New York and extensive discussions with peers worldwide who have launched similar journals and literary publications. Emily serves as Editor-in-Chief, while Tiana leads marketing and sales. Shortly thereafter, Dana Turner joined the team as Art Director.
As of 2024, the Folly team has grown to include Emily Goldthorpe (Managing Editor), Ari Prakash (Assistant Editor), and Sarah Bisacre-Peters (Marketing Intern).
What are we raising funds for?
Our goal is to raise $4500 to help us cover our printing costs for Folly Issue 002, allowing us to continue creating a platform for emerging New Zealand artists and writers to be published. Your support not only aids individual creatives but also furthers Folly’s mission to challenge perceived elitism in the literary community and champion writing that has no loftier aim than to entertain.
Your contribution will make a lasting impact. Thank you for supporting our Folly.
