Fish Saw, Auckland Season

Monfu is bringing its award-winning one-woman theatre show Fish Saw to Tāmaki Makaurau for the first time. Your support through this campaign helps us share this wondrous and healing theatrical experience with more people of the beautiful Aotearoa New Zealand.

ABOUT THE SHOW

A magical encounter of two girls across time and oceans and an unlikely friendship. Spanning across five-generations of a family in their giant house by the sea, Fish Saw is a collection of poignant and funny stories told by The Little Girl With Glasses and her best friend, Mr Fish. With original animation and musical score, inter-generational storytelling, and a touch of magical realism, Fish Saw is like Ghibli meets Isabel Allende. Inspired by Sachie’s family in Sendai, Japan, who lived by the sea for hundreds of years until one fateful day that changed their lives forever.

Fish Saw was created in Buenos Aires in 2017 by a team of artists from Japan, the US and Argentina. It premiered in Buenos Aires, then toured to North America and was last seen at TAHI: New Zealand Festival of Solo Performance in Wellington in 2020.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sachie Mikawa (Co-Writer, Performer, Composer)

Internationally award-winning Japanese artist Sachie Mikawa has been creating her musically driven theatrical world for the last 20 years. Sachie has appeared in festivals and productions in North and South America, Europe, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, where she is currently based. Sachie is often seen as Egg in the internationally infamous circus comedy duo, The Birdmann and Egg. Sachie is one half of the Wellington based production company Monfu.
